Etymology
FromProto-Laenkean *kʰjabʱmwujztʼas, from*kʰjabʱ- (“horn”) and*mwujz- (“to bellow”), referring to the time when animals with antlers (i.e. horns), such as deer, are mating and producing bellowing sounds. The expected reflex would have been *šamburda (which exists in dialects) but the second half of the word was influenced by the name of the preceding month, buhda, and thus replaced because of folk etymology. The two names are etymologically unrelated.
