Laefevian
Etymology
FromProto-Laenkean *kʰjabʱmwujzt'as, from*kʰjabʱ- (“horn”) and*mwujz- (“to bellow”), referring to the time when animals with antlers (i.e. horns), such as deer, are mating and producing bellowing sounds. The expected reflex would have been *šamburda (which exists in dialects) but the second half of the word was influenced by the name of the preceding month, buhda, and thus replaced because of folk etymology. The two names are etymologically unrelated.
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ʃambuxda/ [ˈʃambuhda~ˈʃambuɦda]
- (colloquial): [ˈʃambuːða]
- Rhymes: -ambuxda, -a (25)
- Hyphenation: šam‧buh‧da
Noun
šambuhda
- The seventh month in the Laefevian calendar, equivalent to the Gregorian days of September 16 to October 15.
- (out-of-world) September (the ninth month in the Gregorian calendar)
