There are three similar templates for this function, and their different usage should be noted:
* {{temp|l}} should be used for wikilinks in a list. For example, this might be a list of synonyms or derived terms.
* {{temp|m}} should be used within free-form text. For example this might be in the middle of a paragraph on usage or as part of an etymology.
* {{temp|m+}} should be used in the same environment as {{temp|m}} (i.e. free-form text) but where the name of the language is desired.

: Specifies an optional gloss to be shown alongisde the word, e.g. {{temp|l|ryn|bhepuíc|t=december}} for {{l|ryn|bhepuíc|t=december}}.

: Specifies an anchor to jump to. This will override the language name; see {{temp|anchor}} for more information.

: Specifies an optional part of speech to be shown alongside the word, e.g. {{temp|l|ryn|bhepuíc|pos=noun}} for {{l|ryn|bhepuíc|pos=noun}}.
: When combined with {{para|text}}/{{para|t}}, these show up together in the brackets, e.g. {{l|ryn|bhepuíc|t=december|pos=noun}}.

* This template can be used with proto-languages, as it automatically handles the insertion of an asterisk (<code>*</code>) to mark reconstruction and linking to the appendix for the language.
