Etymology

From Middle Radestrian rvǿș, from Old Radestrian rwø̄jre, inherited from Proto-Radic *rwęɣir (“plot of land”), borrowed from Proto-Riyanic *rwǿḡi (“field”), from Proto-Hirdic *rwø̄́ŋis, from Proto-Laenkean *rwewŋ-. Doublet of rvyeņs (“pasture”) and cognate with Lusetian ryği, Riyan rioŗ (“field”) and Laefevian vrøñ (“field”).
