From Middle Radestrian varútt, from Old Radestrian larŭvtt, inherited from Proto-Radic *alrıβht, of uncertain origin. Likely from Proto-Laenkean *ŋyl- (“to turn”), but would stem from an unexplained stressed mediopassive form, **ŋ̊lŕ̥bʱ-.
