From Middle Radestrian hregans, from Old Radestrian hreɣænss, inherited from Proto-Radic *hirhænhs, from Proto-Hirdic *p̄irhǽnṯəs, from Proto-Laenkean *pepr̥hǽntæs. Cognate with Lusetian irrann, Riyan firâs and Laefevian erpent (“charcoal”).
