From Middle Radestrian gløþs, from Old Radestrian ŋløþre, inherited from Proto-Radic *ŋylθir, from Proto-Hirdic *ŋýlthis (“head”), from Proto-Laenkean *ŋyltʰys. Cognate with Lusetian nyldi, Riyan ŗult (“head”) and Laefevian ñilt (“door”).
