Etymology
From Middle Radestrian ateșavatre, from ate- (“di-”) + șavatre (“twenty”), equivalent to ate· + sjavate. Displaced the decimal úcus, from Proto-Radic *ògcıls.
Pronunciation
Numeral
atește pl (genitive plural ateștis)
- forty (40)
Usage notes
- Followed by the short genitive plural.
- This is one of the handful of Radestrian numerals that are grammatically plural: sjavate (“twenty”), varște (“thirty”), atește (“forty”), lirește (“sixty”), aește (“eighty”) and aevaște (“ninety”). All other numerals are grammatically singular.
