From Middle Radestrian þjalus, from Old Radestrian þjalws, inherited from Proto-Radic *θjalɣs, from Proto-Hirdic *thjálghəs, from Proto-Laenkean *tʰjalgʱ-. Cognate with Ardian têls (“yearning”), Lusetian silğ (“pain”) and partially Laefevian þiêljens (“sorrow”).
