Etymology

From Middle Radestrian vór, from Old Radestrian lór, inherited from Proto-Radic *lōr, from Proto-Hirdic *lóḡus, from Proto-Laenkean *logos. The loss of initial [w] was a sporadic development in the back vowel environment (see also úcus), cf. vjeiș (“fifth”) and vúsus (“fist”), related words where it was maintained. Note the irregular genitive forms vjø and vív, which do maintain the initial v-.
