From Old Radestrian scešeŋjs, inherited from Proto-Radic *scèšeŋjs (“insect”), from Proto-Hirdic *skjɛ́p̄jeŋjəs (“stinging insect”), from Proto-Laenkean *skjæpjæŋjæs. Cognate with Riyan staeviŗ (“ant”) and Laefevian šalpe (“hornet”).
