From Middle Radestrian drýfiș, from Old Radestrian drȳfišjre, inherited from Proto-Radic *dęrɸir, *dȳrɸišjir, from Proto-Hirdic *dø̄́rphis, from Proto-Laenkean *ⁿdewrpʰ-. Cognate with Laefevian nørfis (“thick, dense”).
