From Old Riyan dirt, from Proto-Riyanic *dírto, from Proto-Hirdic *dhirkhdhós (“tail”), from Proto-Laenkean *dʱirkʰdʱós, a body-part nominal derivation from *dʱajrkʰ- (“to follow”). Cognate with Radestrian zreza (“tail”).
