Riyan

Etymology

From Old Riyan jaohur (“lunch”), from Proto-Riyanic *jɤ́huru, from Proto-Hirdic *ḏɤ̄́tp̄ɯḏɯs (“midday”), a Hirdic compound of *ḏɤ̄́t- (“to elevate”) and *p̄ɯḏɯs (“sun”), referring to the high position of the sun in the sky at noon. The semantic shift from the time midday to the meal eaten at midday was mostly complete by the Old Riyan period.
