Template:m/documentation

Used to link to a Laenktionary entry.

There are two similar templates for this function, and their different usage should be noted:

  • {{l}} should be used for wikilinks in a list. For example, this might be a list of synonyms or derived terms.
  • {{m}} should be used within free-form text. For example this might be in the middle of a paragraph on usage or as part of an etymology.
  • {{m+}} should be used in the same environment as {{m}} (i.e. free-form text) but where the name of the language is desired.

Usage

{{m|kil|šeḻē|t=to know}} produces: šeḻē (“to know”).

Parameters

|1= (required)
Specifies the language code, e.g kil or lnk-pro.
|2= (required)
Specifies the word that is being linked to, e.g. {{m|ryn|bhepuíc}} for bhepuíc.
|3= or |alt=
Specifies the display text to show up instead of the basic word lemma, e.g. {{m|ryn|bhepuíc|alt=BHEPUÍC}} for BHEPUÍC.
|4= or |t= or |text=
Specifies an optional gloss to be shown alongisde the word, e.g. {{m|ryn|bhepuíc|t=december}} for bhepuíc (“december”).
|pos=
Specifies an optional part of speech to be shown alongside the word, e.g. {{m|ryn|bhepuíc|pos=noun}} for bhepuíc (noun).
When combined with |text=/|t=, these show up together in the brackets, e.g. bhepuíc (“december”, noun).

Notes

  • This template can be used with proto-languages, as it automatically handles the insertion of an asterisk (*) to mark reconstruction and linking to the appendix for the language.
    For example, {{m|lnk-pro|cel-|céltʰes}} produces *céltʰes.
