From obsolete ñepsis (“reasonable, sensible”) + -ent. The adjective is from obsolete ñepis (“thought, reason, mind”), itself a nominalised adjective from Proto-Laenkean *ᵑgæjpeces (“that which is placed”), from Proto-Laenkean *ᵑgæjp- (“to put”).
