Riyan

Etymology

From Old Riyan rēht, from Proto-Riyanic *rwéhădă (“to get”), from Proto-Hirdic *rweḵ- (“to get, to take”), from Proto-Laenkean *rwek- (“to hold, to find”). Cognate with Radestrian røat (“to take”) and Laefevian vrêkad (“to get”).

1. to get, to receive

   Naŗ rír í nív la vír halvúr.

   I'm getting a dog for my birthday.

   He got too much money last year.

2. forms the mediopassive voice when combined with a participle

   Ría piaoșúŗ vír nív la nízullih.

   My dog is being bullied at doggy daycare.

   Ríaŗ paolúŗ vankiș one țíŗ jaoníd hevúr.

   I am becoming ill from working too much. (lit. "I am being turned ill")

Usage notes

• The inflected present forms are only used in the mediopassive sense. In the sense of "to get", the periphrastic construction is used for the present and the inflected form is the future, like most Riyan verbs.
