Riyan

Etymology

From Old Riyan þōd (“night”), from Proto-Riyanic *ṯṓdu, from Proto-Hirdic *ṯṓchus, from Proto-Laenkean *towcʰos (“night”). It still meant "night" up until the Middle Riyan period when it was displaced by Middle Radestrian háșș (“night”). After this, it underwent semantic narrowing to its current religious meaning.

Pronunciation

Noun

húr (dual ðúdad, plural ðúdis, collective ðúdiva)

  1. religious service held at night, vigil
