From Middle Radestrian șvyriss, from Old Radestrian šwyrīr, inherited from Proto-Radic *šwyrijir, from Proto-Hirdic *chwýriḵis, from Proto-Laenkean *cʰwyrykys. Cognate with Laefevian hwirke (“ridge”).
