From Old Riyan șaoðtu (“feather”), from Proto-Riyanic *s̱ɤ́ḏtu, from Proto-Hirdic *ṯjɤ̄́ḏthus, from Proto-Laenkean *tjojdtʰos (“feather”), a nominal derivation of *tjojd- (“to fly”). Cognate with Radestrian sjiedzs (“feather”).
