Riyan
Etymology
From Old Riyan þōd (“night”), from Proto-Riyanic *ṯṓdu, from Proto-Hirdic *ṯṓchus, from Proto-Laenkean *towcʰos (“night”). It still meant "night" up until the Middle Riyan period when it was displaced by Middle Radestrian háșș (“night”). After this, it underwent semantic narrowing to its current religious meaning.
Pronunciation
Noun
húr (dual húdad, plural húdis, collective húdiva)
- religious service held at night, vigil
- (colloquial) night shift, graveyard shift
- (archaic) night
