This page contains usage information, categories, interwiki links and other content describing the template.

This template makes it easy to show that a term is an abbreviation of another term in the same language.

This template should be used in the etymology section of a word page. For definitions, see the {{form of}} template.

Usage

All you need is the language code the etymology belongs to and the term that is an abbreviation.

{{abbr|ryn|vaenynt|t=new year}}

Generates the following:

Abbreviation of vaenynt (“new year”)

And would automatically add the category Category:Riyan abbreviations

Parameters

|1= (required)
The language code the etymology belongs to.
|2= (required)
The doublet term.
|alt=
Optionally specifies an alternative text to show on the term's link.
|t=
Optionally specifies a gloss to show with the term.
|pos=
Optionally specifies a part of speech to show with the gloss of the term.
|nocap=
If provided with a true value, e.g. |nocap=1, then the text will not start with a capital letter. This is useful when this template is used within a sentence in the etymology section of a page.
|notext=
If provided with a true value, e.g. |notext=1, then it will not display any text before the term at all.
|nocat=
If provided with a true value, e.g. |nocat=1, then no categories will be added to the page.
