This template should be used in the etymology section of an entry.

Unless |nocat= is specified, this template adds the category LANGNAME coinages and optionally a specific category LANGNAME terms coined by COINER.

Usage

{{coinage|ryn|Íve Pailív|in=1879}}

Generates:

Coined by Íve Pailív in 1879

And adds the categories Riyan coinages and Riyan terms coined by Íve Pailív

Here's another example using more features.

{{coinage|ryn|alt=Ŗíme Birne|nat=Riyan|occ=writer}}

Generates:

Coined by Riyan writer Ŗíme Birne

And adds the categories Riyan coinages (but no specific category, as |2= is not set)

Parameters

|1=
The language code
|2=
Optionally, the person, institution or group that coined the term. If you specify this (and |nocat= is not set) then the category LANGNAME terms coined by {{{2}}} will be added. If this is not specified, you can still have text show up using |3=, or by specifying nationality and occupation. This can be useful in cases where the specific category is not wanted.
|3= or |alt=
Optionally, an alternative name to show in the page's text instead of the coiner. This can be useful if you want the added category to say one thing, but the text on the page to say another. Or if you have specific formatting needs for the coiner, but don't want to affect the category.
|nationality= or |nat= or |n=
Optionally the nationality of the coiner. This shows up as an adjective preceding the coiner.
|occupation= or |occ= or |o=
Optionally the occupation of the coiner. This shows up after the nationality and before the coiner.
|in=
Optionally, the year in which the term was coined
|nocat=
Whether no categories should be added.
|notext=
Whether the initial text should be omitted or not.
|nocap=
Whether the initial letter of the text should be a lowercase letter or not.
