From Old Kirvic ⴌⴄⴔⴈⴑ [nēphis], inherited from Proto-Hirdic *nḗbhis, from Proto-Laenkean *nejbʱes. Cognate with Radestrian njøs, Riyan neiv and Laefevian niv.
