Laefevian
Etymology
From launad (“to sing”) + -ies (animal suffix).
Pronunciation
Noun
launies (accusative singular launiehe, nominative dual launiehund, nominative plural launiehir)
- songbird (i.e. a bird having a melodious song or call)
- (zoology) passerine, passeriform
- (taxonomy, in the plural) Passeriformes (order)
Usage notes
- Caution should be taken when translating this word. In English, the term “songbird” may also refer to any bird in the passerine suborder Passeri (also known as an oscine), while in Laefevian it refers to any bird in the passerine order Passeriformes.
