From Old Riyan ljaoðta, from Proto-Riyanic *ljɤ́ḏtă, from Proto-Hirdic *lɤ̄́ḏthəs (“wall”), from Proto-Laenkean *lajdtʰas (“enclosure”). Cognate with Radestrian vjedzs.
