From Old Riyan fānþ, from Proto-Riyanic *fahánṯă, from Proto-Hirdic *p̄ahǽnṯəs (“people, folk”), from Proto-Laenkean *pŋ̊hǽntæs, a collective noun from *peŋ- (“to beget”). Cognate with Radestrian [[háns<t:race#Radestrian|háns<t:race]] and Laefevian [[ebent<t:nation#Laefevian|ebent<t:nation]].
