From Old Riyan siŗaol, from Proto-Riyanic *sijáulă (“word”), from Proto-Hirdic *sijɔ̄́ləs (“word, phrase”), from Proto-Laenkean *siɟáwlas (“to make sound”). Cognate with rjaovs.
